The data illustrate that, despite some fluctuations, Japan observed a fall in happiness inequality along with income growth during this period. By estimating Recentered Influence Function regressions, we find a negative and significant relationship between income level and happiness inequality, as found for other countries. The results also show that people's perception of their relative standing in the income spectrum matters for the level as well as the dispersion of happiness. Other key determinants of happiness inequality include the insecurity of jobs, unemployment, the fear of becoming unemployed in the near future, having health concerns, feeling a sense of loneliness, and the expected coverage of living costs by public pensions after retirement, all of which have a positive effect on happiness inequality except that the public pension variable negatively affects the dispersion of happiness. Our empirical analysis illustrates that happiness inequality is a useful addition to the set of conventional inequality indicators to monitor and better understand social inequality and to formulate measures to tackle inequality-related issues.","subitem_description_language":"en","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_2_subject_24":{"attribute_name":"JEL分類コード","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"JEL classification: D31, D63, H55, I31, I38","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"}]},"item_2_version_type_20":{"attribute_name":"著者版フラグ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_resource":"http://purl.org/coar/version/c_be7fb7dd8ff6fe43","subitem_version_type":"NA"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorAffiliations":[{"affiliationNameIdentifiers":[{"affiliationNameIdentifierScheme":"ISNI","affiliationNameIdentifierURI":"http://www.isni.org/isni/"}],"affiliationNames":[{"affiliationNameLang":"ja"}]}],"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"新見, 陽子","creatorNameLang":"ja"},{"creatorName":"Niimi, Yoko","creatorNameLang":"en"},{"creatorName":"ニイミ, ヨウコ","creatorNameLang":"ja-Kana"}],"familyNames":[{"familyName":"新見","familyNameLang":"ja"},{"familyName":"Niimi","familyNameLang":"en"},{"familyName":"ニイミ","familyNameLang":"ja-Kana"}],"givenNames":[{"givenName":"陽子","givenNameLang":"ja"},{"givenName":"Yoko","givenNameLang":"en"},{"givenName":"ヨウコ","givenNameLang":"ja-Kana"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"119","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2015-10-01"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"WP2015-12.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"440.3 kB"}],"format":"application/x-msdownload","licensetype":"license_4","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"WP2015-12","url":"https://agi.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/50/files/WP2015-12.pdf"},"version_id":"780bb2b1-a150-47c4-9a06-a0b957043be0"}]},"item_keyword":{"attribute_name":"キーワード","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"Happiness","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Inequality","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Social Protection","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Subjective Well-being","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"working paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_8042"}]},"item_title":"Can Happiness Provide New Insights into Social Inequality?
