It is possible to analyze the determinants of health insurance enrollment in Ghana because its public health insurance system (the National Health Insurance Scheme or NHIS) is, in theory, mandatory, but is, in actual practice, voluntary, with only about 40% of the population enrolled in the scheme. Our empirical findings show that risk preferences have a significant impact on health insurance enrollment, with risk averse individuals being significantly more likely than other households to enroll in health insurance, as one would expect. Moreover, our findings also show that very poor households are significantly more likely to enroll in health insurance than other households, perhaps because they are exempt from paying premiums for health insurance. This finding suggests that NHIS is achieving its intended objective of increasing the poor’s access to health care. Finally, our findings also show that the availability of health facilities in one’s own community significantly decreases expenditures on health care, which underscores the importance of ensuring an equitable spatial distribution of health facilities throughout the country.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_2_subject_24":{"attribute_name":"JEL分類コード","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"JEL classification: D11, D12, D81, I12, I13","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"}]},"item_2_version_type_20":{"attribute_name":"著者版フラグ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_resource":"http://purl.org/coar/version/c_be7fb7dd8ff6fe43","subitem_version_type":"NA"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorAffiliations":[{"affiliationNameIdentifiers":[{}],"affiliationNames":[{}]}],"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Adjei-Mantey, Kwame","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"familyNames":[{}],"givenNames":[{}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]},{"creatorAffiliations":[{"affiliationNameIdentifiers":[{}],"affiliationNames":[{}]}],"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Horioka, Charles Yuji","creatorNameLang":"en"},{"creatorName":"ホリオカ, チャールズ・ユウジ","creatorNameLang":"ja"}],"familyNames":[{},{}],"givenNames":[{},{}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2022-02-28"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"WP2022-04.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"837.4 kB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_4","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"WP2022-04","url":"https://agi.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/217/files/WP2022-04.pdf"},"version_id":"116540a7-3756-41d6-b50a-8114e99abb1e"}]},"item_keyword":{"attribute_name":"キーワード","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"Ghana","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"health expenditure","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"health facilities","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"health insurance","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"medical insurance","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"risk preferences","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"working paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_8042"}]},"item_title":"Determinants of health insurance enrollment and health expenditure in Ghana: An empirical analysis","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"Determinants of health insurance enrollment and health expenditure in Ghana: An empirical analysis","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"2","owner":"20","path":["2","35"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"PubDate","attribute_value":"2022-02-28"},"publish_date":"2022-02-28","publish_status":"0","recid":"217","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["Determinants of health insurance enrollment and health expenditure in Ghana: An empirical analysis"],"weko_creator_id":"20","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2024-04-17T05:04:15.140135+00:00"}
